Message from our teen President
My Fellow Jack and Jill Teens,
Hope your summer has been an exciting and eventful one. Let me extend a big welcome to you all as we prepare to start our new program year for Jack and Jill. As your president I am humbled and honored by the opportunity to serve in this capacity and look forward to working with our Teen Board and interacting with all of you to make this a great year.
As we begin the New Year we are excited to have as our Lead Teen Advisors Mrs. Greene-Hunt and Mrs. Kirk along with Mrs. Lawrence and Mrs.White-Thorpe as Teen Advisors.
On August 20th our Lead Teen Moms and Advisors held a "Rise Up" backyard barbeque event for us teens and our families. It was a great opportunity for us to welcome the incoming teens as well as spend time socializing with each other. We also went through several training modules that focused on leadership.
On September 10th (Saturday), we will be participating in the Morristown Community Health Fair where we are encouraged to participate in the Links Walk-a-Thon. The Links Walk-a-Thon is an annual event we teens have participated in for several years and I hope many of you can come out and support this event. Please see the attached flyers for more details and RSVP to Lead Teen Advisor Mrs. Hunt
On September 17th (Saturday) which is our scheduled September Day, we will enjoy an outdoor adventure at the Palisades Interstate Park. During this event, we will be doing our Backpack drive where we will be putting together backpacks and school supplies that will be donated to the Neighborhood house in Morristown for distribution to school age children in need. We will also be doing our Carole Robertson tribute that seeks to remember our fellow Jack and Jill teen who tragically died during the civil rights struggle.
These are but some of our events and we will provide additional updates on other upcoming events as they become available. Included in our activities is our monthly volunteer service to the Homeless Solution Center where each month a teen family volunteers to make breakfast for the residence at the shelter. This is an opportunity for us to help those in need and in the process earn volunteers hours that can be used toward our college application process.
I would like to strongly encourage ALL of our teens to attend our first general meeting, which will be taking place on Sunday, September 25th at 3:30 p.m. The E-Board meeting will start the same day at 2 pm and all are welcomed to attend. We will be going over meeting protocols as well as beginning the discussion pertaining to Teen Conference. We have a lot to go over and we would like to ensure that all voices are heard.
This is going to be an exciting year, one that will be filled with much learning, fun and excitement so be prepared to have a blast!
